STLL Spring 2021 Covid Response

STLL Community,

The STLL Board of Directors is excited to share that we are opening Registration for the Spring 2021 Baseball Season.  We have been hard at work over the last few months creating plans (and back-up plans) to bring baseball back to the youth of our community in a safe and responsible manner.  We will first share some of the details of the modified registration process.  Below that you will find an outline of the Resumption of Baseball Plans and links to important information about the season.

Registration Information

**Registration will be wait-list style until we are cleared to begin practices.  Once players are assigned to a team and we are ready to start cohort-style practices, fees will be due and payable through our Online Registration process.

Resumption of Baseball Plan
Our goal for 2021 is to form teams, conduct safe cohort-style practices, and be ready to play games if and when it is safe to do so. (We are hopeful that this will be sometime in April)\
Anticipated Cohort Style Practice Start Date:  Week of March 8th
Anticipated Season End:  Mid-June

  • Phase 1: In March, players will be assigned to a stable team cohort and will begin the season in Spring Training mode.  We will focus on skills building through Spring Training-style practices.

  • Phase 2: In April, assuming that Santa Clara County has moved into Red Tier status by the end of March, we will then transition to competitive game play.  Should we not be able to move into Red Tier status, we will continue to focus on skills-building during practices and run team scrimmages only.

  • *Note:  Depending on when game play can be resumed, the season may be extended to allow for more game play prior to any District Level (and beyond) postseason play in AAA & above.

Coaching: The return to Baseball in 2021 will require more coaches (while some may have to socially distance off the field at the start of the season)..  As a reminder, we are a 100% volunteer-run organization and will need at least 2 coaches per team to run our season. As we form teams, priority will be given to players who have a parent coaching and we will only be able to fill the number of teams we have coaches for.  So, please consider volunteering when you register your child.  Questions about coaching?  Email [email protected].

The guidelines regarding the return to youth sports continue to evolve.  Here's what we know at this point:

  • Inter-team competitions (i.e., between two teams) will not be allowed in California until January 25, 2021, at the earliest.

  • The California Dept. of Public Health continues to reassess the return-to-competition date based on current trends in the state.

  • Baseball is a considered "Moderate Sport" and cannot resume until Santa Clara County enters the "Red Tier.".  Outdoor Conditioning and skill building is allowed in any tier with proper social distancing in place.

  • Here's a link to the CDPH Youth Sports Guidelines:  CDPH Youth Sports Link

  • Here's some additional information from the American Academy of Pediatrics - AAP Return to Sports Link.

The Resumption of Baseball, in addition to coaches, requires the time and talent of many dedicated off-field volunteers.  If you are interested in helping out by becoming a board member or coordinator, please contact [email protected].

Not ready to register yet?  Please take our Survey so we can better understand your needs prior to a return to baseball.

We also ask that you please help us forward this email to other parents you know (especially classmates or friends of your children) who might be interested in registering their children to play this fun team sport.

FAQs

What is the refund policy?  Our refund policy has not changed for 2021 and must be reviewed and accepted in the registration process.  In short, we do not allow refunds after a player has been placed on a team.  2021 is unique in that we will not be charging fees until players have been placed on a team and practices have started.

Can I use the credit from 2020, for this season?   Yes, credits will automatically be applied if you requested a 50% credit from 2020.  If you do not use all the credit for this season, it will carry over until fully used.  Questions on credits, email [email protected].

How will Uniforms be handled for the 2021 Season? Registration Cost includes ST Logoed Practice Shirt, Hat & Mask

*Note: When we are able to return to game-play and teams are finalized, uniforms will be ordered at no additional cost for divisions that require Jersey Numbers for scorekeeping purposes (AAA and above).
